The “Ethical Hospitality” project, promoted by Fondazione Destination Florence in collaboration with Federalberghi Firenze, Assohotel Confesercenti, Cna Firenze, Confindustria Toscana Centro e Costa-Sezione Turismo and the Municipality of Florence, gives new life to hotel furniture, donating it to non-profit organizations and people in need.
Hotels periodically renew their furnishings, even if they’re not damaged. Those no longer in use but still in excellent condition are then reused by those in need in private homes, foster homes, and shelters. Some furnishings were also donated by furniture manufacturers, and the transportation of the furniture was provided by moving companies.
This project has the dual objective of reducing waste and promoting reuse within the framework of a circular economy in the hospitality sector, significantly impacting energy savings and reducing pollution, while also offering concrete assistance to the most vulnerable. It’s also an opportunity to strengthen collaboration between the tourism industry and the city’s social fabric.
The furnishings are donated to organizations such as Misericordie, Valori Solidali, Caritas, the Red Cross, ANPAS, the Diocese, the Friends For Florence Foundation, the Civil Protection Department of the City of Florence, the Tommasino Bacciotti Foundation, the Il Ritrovo Association, the Parish of Galluzzo, the Seminary of Florence, the Suore Passioniste of Signa, Mercafir, the Parish of Borgo San Lorenzo and Casa Karibuni of Assisi.
Thanks also go to the entrepreneur Federico Isola, a member of the Fondazione Destination Florence Steering Committee, who actively supported the initiative’s success.
