Urban manifesto designed to rethink how Florence experiences major concerts

The city welcomes participants to Opel Firenze Rocks in an organized and structured way. Since 2017, the major international event has seen over 100 artists and bands from more than 20 countries, with attendees from all over the world. The initiative seeks to recover and expand green areas, create new gardens, increase the usability of open spaces, reduce impermeable surfaces, repurpose green spaces, and strengthen urban forestry, building on earlier investments exceeding 10 million euros, which have already delivered completed projects across the city.

Data from previous editions highlights a broad and diverse international presence, with audiences from over 50 countries and a strong presence from European markets. The United Kingdom, Germany, France, Spain and Switzerland consistently represent the main audiences, accounting for over 60%-65% of international attendance on some days. This is complemented by significant numbers from the United States, Northern Europe, and, increasingly, non-European markets. This geographic mix confirms the festival’s position as one of Europe’s leading pop-rock destinations, capturing European and intercontinental music tourism flows with direct benefits for the local economy.

The festival is not solely a musical event but rather a strategic opportunity to position the city. Florence has proven to be an organized and conscious destination, capable of accommodating the significant influx of visitors with a focus on sustainability and the quality of the experience. Music becomes an opportunity to experience and discover the city in all its facets, both cultural and museum-based. To this end, the City Council of Florence, together with PromoFirenze, an agency of the Florence Chamber of Commerce, and Fondazione Destination Florence, has developed a dedicated welcome programme for participants. The initiative integrates the messages of the #EnjoyRespectFirenze campaign with a live music theme, with services and local support designed to support audiences before and during their stay in the city. A support platform will also be available, with dedicated information on sustainable transport and suggestions for cultural experiences and discovery of the area, both before and after the concerts.

The campaign titled “Rock the stage, respect the city” aims to strengthen Florence’s brand reputation nationally and internationally as a city capable of hosting major contemporary events in a responsible and structured manner, reinforcing the positive impact these events can have on the destination. The coordinated approach strengthens the image of Florence as an organized and informed destination.

The operational objectives are multiple: reach out to ticket holders before their arrival to welcome and inform them; increase the use of public transportation on event days; effectively spread the messages of the #EnjoyRespectFirenze campaign; encourage visits to civic museums or the areas of the Metropolitan City; and generate national media coverage.

An installation in the centre curated by Le Nozze di Figaro acts as the main local information point for Firenze Rocks participants. The Florence Welcome Center displays the festival video with a dedicated desk for participants, and other entities in the city also distribute materials.

“The Visarno Arena is once again preparing to become the hub of national and international summer live music, positioning our city among Europe’s top music destinations. The 2026 edition stands out for its extraordinary artistic offering, capable of bringing together different genres and sensibilities and appealing to audiences of all ages: from the timeless atmosphere of the legendary band The Cure to one of rock’s most charismatic figures, Lenny Kravitz, the pop energy of Robbie Williams, and many other groups and artists who will enliven three evenings of great music. Florence intends to continue supporting live music and quality events; we believe that events like this are essential to fueling the cultural vitality that is the soul of our region. Thanks to the collaboration with the organizers and the Chamber of Commerce, there will be opportunities to visit museums and discover itineraries linked to our region’s excellence, starting with artisan workshops. The idea is to ensure that such a significant event also becomes an opportunity to fully experience the city. All this in a location we are investing heavily in and want to further enhance: the Cascine Park,”

ommented Mayor Sara Funaro.

Music Innovation Hub

Opel Firenze Rocks 2026 launches a national observatory for sustainable live events, serving as a pilot to define shared metrics, monitoring tools and scalable guidelines for Italy’s music industry.

Developed with AssoConcerti and Music Innovation Hub (which has led the festival’s Sustainability Unit since 2025), and supported by Live Nation Italia and Le Nozze di Figaro, the project aims to become an industry benchmark.

At its core is a system by Justonearth that uses satellite data and AI to monitor CO2 emissions, air quality and waste, enabling assessment and continuous improvement.

The 2026 edition also advances the festival’s ecological transition through renewable energy, waste reduction, enhanced recycling and mobility strategies promoting public and low-impact transport.
