Treedom celebrates ambassadors’ legacy

Treedom will plant ten trees in Tuscany to mark the tenth Florence Ambassador Award, taking place at Palazzo Vecchio on October 22. Additionally, as a tribute to the impact of the ambassadors, Treedom will create a forest of trees, with one planted for every ambassador, honoring the occasion with trees planted locally and around the world as a long-lasting symbol of the legacy of both the awards and the ambassadors themselves, giving the occasion an even stronger local significance.

The Florence Ambassador Award celebrates professionals who have distinguished themselves in academic and scientific fields and recognizes their contribution to bringing major congresses and events to Florence, generating knowledge, connections and economic value for the city.

Just as the ambassadors leave a lasting legacy to Florence, Treedom creates living legacies through its projects around the world. The trees will be planted in different countries across Central America, Africa and Asia. The selected species, including coffee, cacao, mango and avocado, support local communities by contributing to food security, protecting the soil and biodiversity, and creating opportunities for additional income through the sale of their fruits and products on local markets.

The creation and development of high-impact sustainability projects, with environmental and social benefits, is at the core of Treedom’s mission. In recent years, the company has expanded its work beyond tree planting to include initiatives focused on biodiversity conservation, plastic recovery, water protection, carbon credit projects and urban nature.

Every Treedom tree is geolocated and photographed once it is planted and has its own digital counterpart that can be viewed on Treedom.net, allowing people to stay connected to the project over time.

The ten trees planted in Tuscany to celebrate the tenth anniversary of the Florence Ambassador Awards will be part of an agroforestry project in the region, specifically in a town in the southern part of the Colline Metallifere, in the province of Siena, close to the border with Grosseto. The project is located within a centuries-old chestnut grove. Once central to the local economy and traditionally managed for chestnut production, the grove was later abandoned and gradually became overgrown. Today Treedom, together with a local association and in collaboration with the municipality, is working to recover and expand the area, preserving its natural and cultural heritage while supporting the regeneration of the local landscape.

The ten chestnut trees planted in Tuscany and the trees planted around the world in honor of the ambassadors will therefore become a lasting, living tribute to the tenth Florence Ambassador Awards and to the people whose work has contributed to strengthening Florence’s role as a destination for international knowledge, science and events.
